Join us for Austin Fashion Initiative’s (AFI) monthly meetup at Austin’s newest co-working space: The Riveter where we’ll be featuring a panel for an in-conversation discussion on sustainability and innovation.

Sustainability is no longer a unique selling proposition, and many brands are incorporating sustainable practices as the status quo in their business models. Efforts to create a more sustainable supply chain are not the central, differentiating element to a brand story, but simply an underlying core value. This panel discussion will feature an in-depth conversation on building a sustainable value chain, and an inside look at Austin-based brands making an effort to positively impact the production of apparel and fashion products. We’re pleased to welcome Classic Childhood, Stitch Texas, SixChel and Miranda Bennett for an in-conversation discussion on building brands through sustainable practices.

The Sustainable Youth in Action is hosting a fashion show. Our non-profits’ mission is to reach out to young adults and encourage them to be the change in their communities. It is our wish to provide an opportunity for young adults to educate themselves on issues that society faces today. We are hosting a sustainable fashion show to showcase student’s creations and provide an entertaining and educational experience for the public.

The fashion show is part of our #ZeroWasteCampaign. The event will not only provide students with a glimpse into the world of sustainable fashion, but also bring to their attention the issue of waste disposal in San Antonio. By bringing this event to the attention of your students, we hope to provide an experience that will open their minds to the issues that not only San Antonio but the world faces. Furthermore, there will also be a first place prize $500 scholarship, and all participants will receive professional photos for their portfolios.

Applications for SYA’s Fashion Show are now live! If your students would like to apply, they can go to the link: https://www.syacampaigns.com/advocacy. The show will be held on May 17, 2019, at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Downtown Campus.
