Fashion X Brings Australia to Texas

Fashion X Brings Australia to Texas

Fashion Month is in full force! First NYFW, then Paris and now Austin Fashion Week! Hosted by Fashion X, a fashion event producer in Texas, the 2019 event marked the 11th anniversary of Austin Fashion Week / Fashion X Austin. The focus was on emerging and independent designers with hopes of connecting them to boutique buyers and direct to consumer through runway shows and pop up shops. This year they collaborated with Adelaide Fashion Festival to bring  collections to the US from South Australia.

Australian designers and globally acclimated brands like Stephanie Chehade, Finders Keepers, C/MEO Collective and Keepsake The Label among others dawned the runway with fun, cheerful and even utility based styles for Spring 2019. Filled with pops of color, ruffles, and drama, the Moda X Australia show included 8 designers and brands that gave us all the Spring Inspiration we needed from the Land Down Under.

Co-founder of Fashion X, Austin native, Matt Swinney held his first Austin Fashion Week in 2009. “I’m not sure I knew what I was getting into,” said Swinney, yet they eventually expanded. The Trinity University- San Antonio Alum started this venture on a whim and five years after the first Fashion X Austin, they took the show on the road to Dallas and two years ago, to Houston. “He’s one of those guys who has superpowers that he’s not aware of,” says Lance Avery Morgan, editor of the Society Diaries who was running Brilliant magazine when Swinney was running Rare. “He’s enthusiastic. He brings it to the runway. He brings it to the designer, to the vendors, who want to be attached to his brand.” With successful collaborations with Mexico and Southeast Asia, plus highlighting Texas based designers, brands and boutiques, Fashion X continues to serve as a connector between new designers and experienced designers who can guide the new ones in the industry and elevating the Texas Fashion Scene.
