Chocolate lovers, rejoice! The heart of Downtown San Antonio just got a lot sweeter with Chocollazo! The chocolatier, dessert and candy shop is opening their second location in Hemisfair Park. This family run confectionary will have candy room and a chocolate room. The candy room, called Sugar Sugar, will feature bulk assorted candy such as sour candy, Mexican candy from Alamo Candy Company, as well as nostalgic and “hard to find” sweets. Frank and Mary Collazo, and their children have all worked tirelessly towards this grand opening, while still running their original Broadway shop.

The chocolate room will have truffles, candy bars with custom toppings and a variety of chocolate-dipped items like candied oranges, apples, Oreo cookies and even potato chips. Every creation is like a work of art, “It’s my favorite part of the job is decorating the truffles and coming up with how I am going to decorate it. I really love tapping into that art wrinkle in my brain and trying new things,” Mary Collazo said in 2016. “This location feels electric. Being downtown, in the heart of the city is very exciting. We can’t wait to serve the locals and the many out-of-towners that visit Hemisfair!”, stated Collazo.

Chocollazo started off as a Food Truck in 2013 and in 2016 opened their first shop 4013 Broadway. At their flagship location, they create all of their confections and host a Crepe Brunch every Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm.

The official grand opening of the new location will be on March 16th, so be sure to stop by. The new shop is located in the old Pereida house near Yanaguana Garden, in Hemisfair Park. “Welcoming Chocollazo and Sugar Sugar to Hemisfair rounds out a diverse array of culinary tenants that are unique to San Antonio,” said Hemisfair CEO, Andres Andujar. “Our alluring collection of food and beverage offerings is helping Hemisfair tell the story of San Antonio’s food and people to both locals and visitors. It adds tremendously to the sense of place that Hemisfair offers and will help to draw commerce into the urban core.”

With the opening of Chocollazo’s Sugar Sugar, we’ve already been seeing other new Hemisfair shops, including Blue Cat Yoga Studio, Con Safos Cocina Y Cantina, Paleteria San Antonio, Dough Pizzeria and CommonWealth Coffeehouse and Bakery.
