25 Jan Affordable Swedish style hits San Antonio. IKEA is Finally Opening!
Gone are the days of making the 2 hour road trip up to Round Rock for Swedish Meatballs and fairly priced European home decor. IKEA has finally announced the grand opening of their San Antonio location at Live Oak for February 13th, just in time for Valentine’s Day! Customers can begin lining up at the front doors by 5:00 am and partake in giveaways, entertainment, and fun activities starting at 9:00 am kicking off with a traditional Scandinavian Ceremony, and all. “It’s a Scandinavian tradition,” said Store Manager Deidre Goodchild. “Instead of cutting a ribbon we actually saw a log. So it’s a little more challenging, but a lot of fun.”
Visitors will be able to navigate their way through the store’s 50 room displays and three model home interiors. The 289,000-square-foot building will showcase more than 10,000 products and we might need a few days to thoroughly explore for ourselves.
The store will house a 359-seat restaurant, including a bistro, Swedish food market and staff cafeteria. The restaurant opens 30 minutes before the store and serves a $2 breakfast, featuring their famous Swedish meatballs and even a Veggie option so everybody can enjoy.
With 250 permanent employees and 100 seasonal employees, this opening is expecting to boost the city’s local economy. “It isn’t just about selling furniture. For us it’s about creating a better everyday life for the many,” Goodchild said. “Here, that’s about furnishing solutions, but as an organization we do that in many ways by supporting the communities around our stores, around our suppliers.”
The Grand Opening is expected to have a huge turnout as the buzz around the city continues to spread. We’re expecially looking forward to this as we get ready for Spring Cleaning and reorganizing our closets for the new season á la KonMari Method (If you haven’t seen the Netflix hit, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, it’s a treat! You’ll thank us later…).
