SLTV: What is your name or fashion identity?
TZ: TyTanisha L. Zacharie, I usually go by the nickname Ty.

SLTV: How long have you been blogging?
TZ: I’ve been blogging for a little bit over a year. My blog anniversary was on New Year’s Day. It’s called ZachupurBowTy

SLTV: Where do you go to school?
TZ: I’m a fashion design and merchandising student at Sanford-Brown College.

SLTV: Why is fashion important?
TZ: Fashion is important because it’s another creative outlet for people to express themselves. It can be many people’s ways of living. It’s a lot more than just one thing because it can be many things.

SLTV: What is your dream?
TZ: My dream is be able to live a stable life creatively. I never want to stop doing the things I love and enjoy because of obstacles. I hope that I get to travel the world to experience new places and ways of culture. Also, I would love to grow widely as a fashion designer, photographer, and blogger. Mostly as a designer and blogger, photography is more of a hobby for me.

SLTV: What is your favorite quote?
TZ: “Be The Change You Wish To See In The World.” –Mahatma Gandhi

Note from the Style Director
Throughout the many years I have studied fashion, I have always been intrigued by the square-personalities in this round-hole-industry. Ty is an amazing spirit. All you have to do is look at her to know she’s something special. Although shy and soft spoken, we see her out and about at multiple fashion events wearing something symbolically extroverted and unique. She strolls around (usually alone), taking notes, absorbing all the visual stimuli and at times, we catch her staring out the event windows, leaving us to wonder, “What is that fascinating young woman thinking? (Or making in her mind?)” Her courage to wear whatever her heart desires, ultimately (and frequently) earns her a place among Style Lush TV’s Best Dressed and if it weren’t for her fun individuality, we’d be left at times, without a single inspiring moment during nights of “style watching”. We love this girl! She is wonderfully mysterious and interesting and I have no doubt that if she sticks to creativity and continues to study writing, she will have a very successful career. She is someone to “watch”. A true local talent in a beautifully eccentric and “unconventional” fashion package. My favorite kind. <3  -Burg

“About ZachupurBowTy”
By TyTanisha L. Zacharie

Hello everyone!! I’m Ty. I’m a fashion design and merchandising student at Sanford Brown. I found my love for fashion during high school and my first year of college so I started a blog around a year ago called ZachupurBowTy (pronounced Zack-up-your-bow-tie). ZachupurBowTy comes from parts of my birth name (TyTanisha L. Zacharie) and the phrase, “fix up your bowtie”. I thought it’d be a new and fun way to express myself and  post things like pictures of fashion events, outfits, photo shoots and my own personal thoughts.

I’d like to start by saying, it’s always hard finding cute, trendy clothes in my size. Plus size fashion is really starting to evolve, but for me, it’s so hard getting trendy plus size clothes because it’s too pricey. If I had the money I’d definitely spend it. Since I don’t, I use my fashion design skills to alter stuff that I can’t fit into but love. Eventually, all my reconstructs make it onto my blog or Etsy. In the look below, I altered and reconstructed the cardigan I’m wearing to fit me better. I added some space in the sleeves and center back. It was a great way to embellish the cardigan and make it my own personal style .

I love taking nice vintage things and styling them into something new too. I find a variety of vintage things in my grandmother’s closet. My grandma has so much clothing in the house, a lot that she doesn’t even wear anymore. I find myself looking through her closet when I feel I have nothing to wear, (which is all the time. Lol) and find things that are trendy in today’s fashion and that I can make into my own. Also, I find random things I wasn’t looking for and put them aside for later. In the picture below, I’m wearing a skirt and cardigan that I got from grandmother’s closet. I styled these finds with my red blouse. Also, I fixed my hair and makeup around the look as well. I like to pay attention to certain details in clothing and bring out what I personally like.

I also post about things that I’ve made from scratch or reconstructed. The creative process can take some time, so I’m glad the method of reconstruction is another option. I think I’m leaning towards showing plus size fashion in another way. The garment below is an example of something I made from scratch in design school. It’s an Asian inspired jacket made from brocade with lace trim. Things I made from Scratch2Things I made from Scratch

My goal for ZachupurBowTy is to continue to post styled outfits, photo shoots, fashion events, interviews, DIYs and giveaways. A girl like me dares to be different and stay inspired. Anything related to fashion, photography, and creativity, my own personal interests at heart will make it onto my blog. So, in the spirit of that, I have a giveaway that you guys are all welcomed to enter. I’m giving away a feather headband that I handmade myself. I got the inspiration from another blogger. Check out the image below for more information. Giveaway ends January 16th at 12:00am.
