Fashion Group International’s San Antonio Chapter recently held a breakfast and panel at Paramour on the state of the Media in fashion. This topic is a natural progression from their previous panels in which they’ve talked about the latest trends in print, technology, and social media and the impacts in the fashion industry. We all know that the way of the world is all fast paced and internet based, I mean, Style Lush TV is mostly online fashion media, but all of us in this industry still understand that other, more traditional forms of media are still important. Although print, almost seems like a dying art form, we are still appreciating it as art. I, personally, still love Vogue in print and almost treat it as a collector’s item. In the panel, the experts weighed in and strongly advised that if we want to stay relevant in the fashion world, we must catch up with the times and appreciate the strong current of online media as a major force that’s not only here to stay, but continuously evolves.

The discussion led on as members and guests inquired about what the best options are when obtaining media coverage on their projects, collection launches and promotion towards their businesses. Even those of us in the media industry sought advice on how to stay relevant. The main theme was authenticity, a challenge for so many of us in the fashion industry due to a world of false advertisement, carbon copies and instant gratification. This resonated with so many of us that morning, but luckily, San Antonio is young enough in the fashion world that we are able to take that advice into account, stand out in the fashion and arts, while still retaining a level of authenticity that is unparalleled.
