It’s no secret that technology and high fashion have merged and become a trending topic for some time now. We sat down with Dr. Gerald “Jerry” J. Wilmink, CEO and founder at WiseWear recently and were absolutely thrilled to learn that this San Antonio, Texas entrepreneur is not only taking on the smart jewlery industry, he’s also looking to improve it.
If you have yet to learn about WiseWear, allow us to catch you up a bit. WiseWear is a fashion-tech hybrid company that creates innovative luxury wearables that showcase a number of “smart wear” features. Like, many known fashion-tech hybrids, WiseWear alerts the wearer of texts, calls and emails as well as collects detailed insights on health and wellness such as steps, distance and calories, but it’s their innovative safety feature that is setting this brand apart from others and causing much buzz within the fashion world.
Should you come across an urgent situation, simply tap your WiseWear to send a distress message to a call center. You can also send private security alerts and notify loved ones should you need help.
While WiseWear specializes in advanced sensing technology, they also have a strong focus on design and aesthetics, making their fashion-tech hybrid truly desirable and truly wearable. So much so in fact, it’s caught the eye of world fashion icon Iris Apfel. (but more on that to come. Stay Tuned to Style Lush TV.)
“Technology is a beautiful thing, and wearing it should be too. Our goal is to empower consumers with the best of style and technology, so they can live the healthy, balanced lifestyles they deserve.” Says Dr. Wilmink
SLTV: Aside from safety, you mentioned that design is one of the primary focus points of WiseWear. What would you say is the ultimate problem with current fashion tech hybrids?
WiseWear: Because current wearables are problematic by design they result in products not being worn. Materials such as elastomer and rubber band are not fashionable and inappropriate for professional and formal contexts. Also, these materials absorb bacterial buildup that causes skin rashes. Another item we are focused on is safety. Few devices offer functions for women’s safety. Ours does.
SLTV: We spoke a bit on inaccuracy when it comes heart rate reports in other smart wear. How has WiseWear taken steps to improve this?
WiseWear: Signal flow is vital. With our design, we have bluetooth communication with a patented antenna allowing for signals to be sent through fine metals such as gold and palladium.
SLTV: This, also contributing to absolutely no compromise when it come to fashion aesthetics we see. WiseWear jewelry is incredibly chic!
