From the creator of the Spurs Coyote Paleta T, comes a new Oh-So-Cool shop on the St. Mary’s Strip. Joseph Silvas, aka BROSEPH, has been one very busy member of our fashion community. We caught up with him in between our crazy schedules to get the exclusive low-down on his next big step in his career.
SLTV: High Five Shop is a big leap in your already successful career. How did this opportunity come to be and when are you set to open?
JS: A couple of months ago some friends of mine who owned the store reported to me that my items were selling incredibly well and asked me if I were interested in taking over the store front. Right now I’m still in the process of getting things done, but it’s going to happen. Next month. Our Grand opening will be July 16th! I already have a food truck booked, a shaved ice and mangonada truck and some little finger foods and of course the items in the store.
SLTV: Sounds like a blast! We can’t wait.
SLTV: Will the merchandise be all your stuff? I heard through the grapevine that you have a talent for curating other merchandise from local brands.
JS: Yes, it will have a lot of BROSEPH Goods, ’bout 50%, but the other 50% will be other artist’s work, local as well as national artists that fit well with our San Antonio vibe. It will be everything from t-shirts, patches, pins, stickers, art prints, accessories, goods, great gifts.
SLTV: I can see this helping a lot of “starting out businesses”.
JS: Yea, definitely, I have a lot of friends who don’t have a storefront. They go sell at vendor opportunities and events just like I have done for the past three years, so I feel like they deserve to have something in a store and having the store located off of N. St. Mary’s, I feel like that is the perfect audience for me and my friend’s items. That just happened to work out so well.
SLTV: You and your brand are so zany in the best sort of way. Will you stay true to that mood at High Five Shop?
JS: Absolutely Yes. One thing I will remain true to is “Fun”. When I have people come to the shop, I want them to have fun. Even our name, High Five Shop, when you give a high-five to someone you feel good afterwards. It’s something fun. I feel like not a lot of people do high fives anymore. If we did, it would spread more good vibes.
SLTV: (smiling & laughing) We love high fives. Let’s do one now! (slap) You know, when we do our high fives we sometimes get the looks, like, you guys are the biggest nerds, but we rebuttal with “yea, but you know you feel good”
JS: (laughing) Exactly.
