Note from the Style Director
We Love Cathy! Not only is her smile bigger than the sun, but her personality is just as bright! When she first contacted us about the casting call, we hung up feeling one thousand times happier from just listening to her smile-talk through the phone. After the phone call, we navigated to her blog and anticipated seeing super-sweet posts sprinkled with happiness, unicorns and rated G DIYs. Instead we were surprised to read a quick F-Bomb among a cool “day out in the city” entry and I have to say, WE LOVED IT! She’s toned it down a bit for Style Lush, but “In The Violet Life” is raw, hip and straight forward. Cathy fills her pages with short, fun, fashion posts, local scene photography and as we mentioned earlier, just a sprinkle of adult language. Cathy is your favorite kind of Real Girl. Her blog is not for your kids but her entries show spunk and she rocks a mean InstaPhoto style that will appeal to all you FontCandy Fans out there. We appreciate the intimate subject she touches on here for Style Lush and give a huge thumbs up to the fantastic #OOTDs. Her personal blog, “In The Violet Life“, is only three months old, but we have found ourselves checking back regularly to see what greatness comes out of Cathy’s mind (and mouth). lol After all is said and done, Style Lush is “In The Violet Life” and YOU should be TOO! Support your local bloggers. Sometimes, a little blunt language and fun ideas is exactly what the doctor ordered. – Burg <3

Hey hey SA!

It’s a new year and I know you’re more than ready for what great things this year has to bring! I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my New Year’s Eve spent on my parents couch with the flu– got a little crazy with RuPaul’s drag race, as you can imagine.

When I wasn’t constantly staring at the television like a child watching TV for the first time, I had a lot of time to reflect, particularly on some goals of mine for 2015. 2014 was a year where I finally placed my intentions beyond my mind and into my hands. I finally stopped thinking about it and just did it! Like my blog.

I’ve received a lot of good energy and support from old friends, new friends and of course, family, which I am grateful for. I thought to myself… Why didn’t I do this sooner?

A little background on the origin of my blog– my body is confusing– I’m not thin and I’m not plus size. I like to think I’m cute size. Like a teapot: short and stout. Here is my handle, here is my spout. Okay I’ll stop now.

But really I wanted to provide a creative outlet for my writing as well as to give ladies with similar/not the easiest to style body types a place to activate their creative selves.

About a week or so after my blog “launched,” a stranger told me, “I wish I could dress like you but I just don’t have the confidence.” Mind you—it was not my proudest moment. I was a little hungover, wearing a dress that is 5 years old from Forever 21, and my hair was tucked away in a messy bun. I guess from this lady’s point of view, I looked fashionable. I think it was the way I styled my blue printed dress with tights, socks, boots, and a sweater, which all together is maybe what she admired. She was a beautiful lady and I simply responded, “You just got to do it one day! After that, you don’t even care anymore.”

I dress how I feel and if a little girl stares at me at Plato’s Closet (true story) then so be it. Who knows, maybe I inspired her. (Wishful thinking.)

It’s a new year and creatively, we need to not think about how others will react, and just Do. Kind of like that shot at the bar that your friends are peer pressuring you to do. (Please take shots safely)

So let’s take that shot SA!

Here’s a shot of my own. This look was inspired to take risks and to reinvent my look for 2015. My friends and family are probably so tired of my high waisted shorts but what can I say? Summer or fall, we’re together. The photographed sweater gets a lot of compliments too! Thanks to my dad for letting me steal it from his closet.

PS- alcoholic shots (as mentioned) were not consumed during the creation of this post.
